About us

Pircher, Nichols & Meeks has established a strong national reputation, with one of the most active and sophisticated real estate practices in the country. We represent real estate investors, developers, pension funds, lenders, retailers, management companies and foreign investors in all types of real estate transactions. We have approximately 60 attorneys, with approximately 40 in Los Angeles and 20 in Chicago.

Our tax and corporate departments are largely service arms of our real estate practice. Our tax lawyers are regularly consulted to structure the investment entity and the form of the transaction, to resolve difficulties that may arise due to the tax position or status of a particular client and to advise clients on the characterization and treatment of various aspects of a transaction under the tax laws. In addition to general corporate, securities (federal and state) and financing matters, our corporate lawyers assist the real estate lawyers with negotiating and drafting the documentation necessary for those real estate transactions that are structured as corporate mergers or stock acquisitions.

Our litigation department approaches its cases from the perspective of a business person as well as from that of a lawyer. Our attorneys have significant trial experience in both state and federal courts. When assessing a case, our attorneys consider not only its strengths and weaknesses, but its business impact as well.

We have a full service bankruptcy department, representing mostly creditors in a variety of circumstances. Our bankruptcy attorneys are particularly adept in addressing bankruptcy issues arising out of real estate transactions.

The Los Angeles and Chicago offices are an integrated real estate practice, working on transactions throughout the United States and, on occasion, in foreign countries. Such integration provides an extensive collection of resources and often results in attorneys in one office teaming up with attorneys in the other office to manage transactions more efficiently and productively. In addition, continuing education is conducted on a firm-wide basis, with video conferencing enabling attorneys in both offices to participate in our weekly programs.
