Construction

Overview

Our construction practice group provides clients with the full range of legal services for their construction projects, from planning to contract negotiation to dispute resolution.  Our attorneys have extensive experience representing owners, investors, developers, contractors, design professionals, construction managers, governmental authorities, insurance carriers and homeowners associations with respect to their most important and complex transactional and litigation matters, for projects throughout the United States.

Transactional Expertise

Our construction attorneys are experienced at negotiating design and construction agreements for all types of projects, from tenant build-outs to major multi-phase developments, and in advising clients with respect to the many issues and complications associated with such projects.  We can use standard industry form agreements when appropriate, such as those published by the American Institute of Architects, but we also have our own library of forms to draw from. Representative projects include:

  • Ground-up construction of a hotel at Times Square in New York City, including negotiation of complex license agreements with adjacent neighbors
  • Major renovation of an iconic Chicago landmark building
  • Agreements for taking over, re-starting and completing a stalled condominium development project in San Jose, California
  • Design and construction agreements for multi-family developments in Oxnard, California
  • Conversion of a historic Boston office building into a luxury hotel
  • Design and construction of hotels in downtown Chicago and Washington, D.C.
  • Design and construction of major renovations and new buildings at a shopping mall in South Carolina
  • Construction of a student housing complex in Minneapolis
